So finally someone has found a way to jailbreak the 16GB iPod Touch for firmware 1.1.4 and this is using ZiPhone. Most people who used ZiPhone got a BSD root error and had to put the iPod into restore mode, but someone found a way around that. The video below explains exactly how to jailbreak the iTouch. Basically you just hit jailbreak multiple times in ZiPhone until right before you would usually get the BSD error, and then exit ZiPhone. Watch and be amazed.

Mots people like to use their iPod Touch in landscape mode so that the keyboard displays horizontally, but this is not possible with most native AIM clients that are installed to the iTouch. There is a workaround for this and I use it all the time, not even just for the keyboard being horizontal. If you navigate to Meebo on your iPod Touch / iPhone you can login to many different chat networks and then use the keyboard in the landscape direction. Also Meebo allows you to create a master account that will log you into all of your chat services at once.

It is a great website and I highly recommend using it. If you have any suggestions about Meebo or comments / feedback feel free to let me know.

A lot of people do not want to drop $20 on the iPhone apps or some people just didn’t load the Notes app onto their jailbroken iPod Touch. Here is a quick workaround to be able to have notes stored on the iPod Touch without having the Notes application.

  • Set up a new group in Address Book named Notes and then Sync your iTouch.
  • Open Contacts on the Touch and click the Groups button on the top left.
  • Choose the Notes group.
  • Add a new contact.
  • Edit the Name field - call it Notes.
  • Click the Add Field button at the bottom.
  • Scroll to the bottom and choose Note. Type your notes in the field and Save.
  • Click Save again.

There you go. You can now add notes by editting that Notes contact. Not the same as a proper Notes application, but it works.

I am not sure how many people actually read my posts on here, but if you do follow a bit there is a new domain name that I purchased. I am going to put a link on the old blog, but this is where all new content will be published. Cannot wait to add more tricks and make this a huge database of useful information.

Though there was plenty of other news at the Macworld Keynote today, iPod Touch users got a little love thrown their way today — for a price. Steve Jobs announced that effective immediately, there are five new apps available for the Touch: Mail, Stocks, Notes, Weather, and Maps. Oh, and it will set current iTouch owners back $20. Not that bad of a price for five different applications.

* Preview mail before you open it, display grapics and photos inline, and view HTML, PDF, Word, and Exel attachments.

* Stocks, Weather, and Notes all appear as widgets on your home screen.

* Google Maps determines your approximate location if Wi-Fi is on and gives you directions, marks specific locations, and has both hybrid and satellite maps to show you the way.

Happy New Year to anyone dropping in from around the web! Just a few announcements. I know that this website has been neglected for quite some time, but it was hard to update with school and other things that had to be done first. Now I have no classes and full time to work on this website. Look for new posts every day and maybe even a redesign of the website and a dedicated domain.

I just would really like to know how you came across this website though. Just leave a simple (even anonymous) comment on what site brought you here or what you searched to find me. This would be a great help in determining where to go next with this site.

As always your suggestions for articles and tutorials are greatly appreciated. Look for a new article later today about something groundbreaking for the iPod Touch.

The famous Yellow Pages phone directory, owned by Apple partner AT&T, is now available in a format specifically made for the iPhone and iTouch. Users must navigate to the Yellow Pages website via the Safari browser, where a formatted version of the site appears that allows users to quickly start a search or input a place and category.

The site also provides access to ratings, maps and directions, and in the case of the iPhone, the ability to dial a number directly from a listing.

AT&T says it has also made available an optimized WAP website, a downloadable client for 20 other AT&T phones, and the ability to text a search query to YP411. Conversely, users browsing the website can have results texted to a cellphone, complete with driving directions. +1 for AT&T and Apple.
